How We Work

What You Need to Send to Us:

All you need to do is provide us with as much information on your ancestors as you can.  Start by asking older members of your family about their parents, their mother’s maiden name, where/when they were born, any siblings they may have had, their religion, or if they emigrated to another country and when.  The more information you can ascertain from family members, the easier it will make our search in finding your ancestors and ensure that they are indeed YOUR ancestors.  However, by the very nature of genealogy, it is not always possible to find everything we are looking for.  You can start by completing the necessary assessment form and sending it to us. When you have completed the form, please submit it to us for assessment.  We will then be in touch with you as soon as possible, with an approximate (no obligation) estimate and search strategy time frame for the research that can be undertaken.   We can also work to YOUR budget. Perhaps you only wish to spend a specific amount of money on research?  That’s not a problem, we will tailor the research to your needs, and that way we can prioritize the search.   Into The Past looks forward to sharing this journey of discovery with you and we hope you will give us the opportunity to work with you on finding your ancestors! Please feel free to contact us by phone or email.

What We Do with Your Information:

On receipt of the completed Assessment Form, we will work out a search strategy based on the information you supply, and then provide an estimate for the work to be carried out.  This will take approximately one week from receipt of information.  If you choose to allow us to undertake the research work for you, we would require payment prior to the commencement of the research.   On completion of the research, we will provide a bound copy of our report, which will include transcripts from census forms, birth/marriage/death certificates, including all information ascertained during research, and copy documents where available regarding place of birth, passenger list information, including research sources.   Research can be undertaken for a single certificate (birth/marriage/death), if required, or more.  Cost will vary depending on extent of search.   We also work closely with our counterpart in New York, (Genealogist Patricia Phelan), who can assist us with ancestors who may have emigrated to the USA, and where possible trace “living” descendants of those ancestors.
